Zelda Breath of the Wild: How to Catch Bugs and Lizards

How to Catch Bugs and Lizards – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Like past Zelda games, bugs play a large role in Breath of the Wild, albeit in a bit of a different fashion. Bugs are essential for cooking this time around, and you combine them with various monster parts to make status boosting elixers.

You’ll need at least one bug to combine with parts. Luckily, they aren’t terribly hard to find across the world of Hyrule and pop up fairly frequently. In Breath of the Wild, however, you simply catch them with your hands and don’t need any kind of net. Keep an eye out while you’re running around the wilderness, bugs are small and oftentimes hard to spot. If you see one, however, make sure you crouch down to a stealth stance and approach them so that they don’t run away. Just walk up behind the bug and hit A to catch it, and that’s it. You’ll capture other animals like lizards and frogs in the same way, that can also be combined with parts to make elixirs.

Alternatively if you don’t want to catch bugs, many merchants sell them. There’s also a way to track specific bugs you’re looking for. When you get to the Ancient Tech Lab in Hateno Village you’ll have the option of upgrading your runes and also unlock the camera for use in Breath of the Wild. Use materials to update the Sheika Sensor once, and you’ll gain a new ability. With this ability, you can take a picture of any kind of material, including, bugs, and assign that to the Sheika Sensor. Now, the sensor will direct you to the nearest bug of the type you’re looking for.
