How to Get the Rope Ascender in Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is full of useful weapons and gadgets that help Lara Croft on her mission to uncover the rare artifacts hidden throughout the land, especially in tombs. Few gadgets in Shadow of the Tomb Raider are more important for accessing areas than the Rope Ascender.
Like previous games in the series, the Rope Ascender is a device in Shadow of the Tomb Raider that allows Lara to destroy barriers and pull heavy objects. This powerful winch can also be used as to ascend rope lines and rappel wire far faster normal.
In order to unlock this gadget, you’ll need to pass about halfway through Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s story. More specifically, the Rope Ascender will be available in the Hidden City once you complete “Takiy’s Dice.” This side mission can be started once you talk to a young boy named Takiy, who is located near the northernmost bridge.
Once you find Takiy, he’ll ask you to speak with four separate Outcasts, each detailed on the map. Be sure to use Lara’s survival instinct to scan the environment for them by pressing on the right stick. After speaking to the fourth, a fifth Outcast will unlock, which turns out to be a merchant. This merchant is the only one that sells the Rope Ascender, charging 3,300 Gold Pieces for it. If you don’t have the gold quite yet, don’t worry, as you can return and purchase the item at any time.
With the Rope Ascender unlocked, you’ll be able to access a lot more interesting areas, filled with plenty of missions, Gold Pieces, and unique gear to unlock.
