MLB The Show 19: How to Get Stubs Fast and Easy

Updated on May 8th, 2019

Welcome back to another year of Diamond Dynasty and MLB The Show 19. If you’re here, you’re probably new to the mode, perhaps the series, or you’re just having a hard time getting the cards that you want. Here are our tips for how to get stubs fast and easy in MLB The Show 19.

We’ve been doing this for a few years and while there are tweaks every year that we need to adjust to (RIP the equipment exchange), there are some fundamentals that remain true.

Step 1: Grind Out Easy Stuff to Get a Nest Egg

For anyone just starting out, the first thing we recommend is to do all the easy challenges that will reward you Stubs for little effort.

In MLB The Show 19 we have the luxury of Moments now.

Moments are a great new addition to Diamond Dynasty which adds a series of historical themed challenges that will reward you with Stubs, EXP (which will earn you rewards over time now), and eventually highly rated cards (which should be your ultimate goal anyway, Stubs are just the means to that end).

Jump into Moments and start knocking out anything that you feel you can succeed in. Don’t go crazy bashing your head against the wall on really tough Moments if you’re just trying to get Stubs fast.

If you really want the final card reward though, by all means go for it, it just might not be the most effective way to get Stubs easily.

If you opened a bunch of packs from pre-order bonuses or just happen to have a lot of cards for whatever the reason might be, look through them and see which ones are worth selling on the community board, and which ones might be worth turning into your Live Series collection.

For every 10 unique cards you turn into for a specific team, you’ll get 200 Stubs and some EXP and you’ll earn progress towards whatever card that team is featuring.

Finally, go to the currently featured program and see what challenges you can take out there. Like the Moments, some of them will reward you with easy Stubs and XP that you can do just from playing the game.

You’ll need a nest egg of a few thousand Stubs at least to effectively preform the other tips we suggest.

Step 2: Resist Gambling on Packs

This is going to be hard for a lot of you to understand, but it’s really important that you hear us out if you’re someone that’s trying to grind their way to the top of Diamond Dynasty in MLB The Show 19.

Don’t buy packs unless you literally have nothing else you want to do with the Stubs.

Buying packs is like gambling at the casino. Sure, will one of you hit jackpot, pull Mike Trout, and call me an idiot for telling you not to buy packs. Yes, that will happen.

But for every one person that gets a sweet diamond pull, there are legions of other players spending all of their hard earned Stubs on packs just to get nothing back but a lousy Silver or a Bronze. The odds are not good.

If you never buy a pack, and just save all your Stubs, you’ll eventually just be able to straight up buy most of the the diamond cards you could ever want or need. I learned that the hard way last season.

I saved up and bought lots of mega pack bundles and literally did not pull a single Diamond all season long.

Yes, I didn’t listen to my own advice and I paid the price. Even with the increased drop rates this year, we don’t suggest it.

At least spend the extra money, and go play Battle Royale if you want to get a pack. You can at least have a shot at getting additional diamonds through Battle Royale.

Okay, now that you know how to not to lose the Stubs you grinded for, let’s talk about making money into more money.

Step 3: Become Best Friends With the Community Market Board

So, in past years, the emphasis has been on finding deals on the market, and exploiting it by flipping cards you get on the cheap for higher prices.

You can still do this… but not to the same effect as there is a cap on how much over the top you can go on listing cards. The emphasis this year is more about playing the game, imagine that!

It is still a decent way for getting Stubs in MLB The Show 19, though, if you’re not in the mood to play games.

Study the market board and recognize when players are currently being overvalued or undervalued. Popular and big name players tend to go for higher on the community market regardless of whether or not they are actually good cards.

Be extremely patient. Don’t ever Buy Now, always use Buy Orders, and then take advantage of the people that aren’t patient by using Sell Orders to sell your card at a price that you know you’ll profit from.

Also, try to sling cards you know are just being hyped up for no reason other than popularity and use the extra cash to buy a card that’s just as good.

This is how crafty and patient players build their team without having to spend a dime of real-life cash.

Step 4: Look Into the Crystal Ball & Bet on Futures and Find Sleepers

Aside from gaming the market to the best of your ability, you can make long term Stubs by using your knowledge of the real-life MLB the predict market changes. Kind of like the stock market.

When cards change in rating from gold to diamond, silver to gold, etc. they generally receive a big bump up in Stubs on the community market. Use this knowledge to your advantage.

If you’re confident that someone is going to break out as a sleeper this year, get them now while they are cheap and sit on them until you can turn a huge profit.

If someone is on the verge of being promoted to a higher class of card, get them now, and again, wait until the promotion happens and reap the benefits.

This takes actually paying attention to the MLB to pull off. If you wait until everyone else is doing it, you’re already too late. But, if you can keep up with the league and be ahead of the masses in MLB The Show 19, you can swim with the sharks in a boat load of Stubs.
